After the encounter on Sunday, the first thing I did was start making arrangements to renew my car papers.
There’s a lady who helps me with the renewals — Mrs. Mnadu. I called her that Sunday, and she immediately got to work.
By this morning, she had completed everything and needed to send the finished papers over. She informed me that she would send them through a logistics company and that they would call me shortly.
Soon after, I received a call from the logistics company. The lady on the line told me that the delivery fee was going to be 3,500 Naira. I simply replied, “Okay.” Because that was actually less than I expected.
Unknown to me, Mrs. Mnadu was still there — I thought she had dropped off the package and returned to work. But just as the lady was ending the call, I heard someone in the background say, “3,500?” in a disagreeing tone. I knew then that some serious negotiation was about to go down.
Several minutes later, the lady from the logistics company called me back and informed me that the delivery fee was now 2,500 Naira. This was the highlight of my day. “I need more people like Mrs. Mnadu in my life,” I thought to myself.
Overall, today was a good day. Not only did I get my car papers updated and can now move freely again, but I also managed to complete all my tasks. In fact, I checked off every item on my to-do list.
I created a few pull requests on a client’s project, conducted reviews with team members, provided feedback on several tasks, completed some implementations, and fixed a few bugs.
As a reward for my productive day, I decided to treat myself to some Ram Suya this evening. On my way back, I encountered another group of police officers. Judging by the way they were vigorously waving me down, it seemed they were certain my papers were not in order.
Thank goodness I had made copies of the updated papers and had everything neatly organized in my car.
I stopped, turned off the engine, opened my boot for them to inspect, and handed over the vehicle papers and driver’s license as they commanded. When they saw that everything was correct and up to date, they let me go.
Sometimes, it’s the little things that bring the most satisfaction — like having all your paperwork in order and saving extra 1,000 Naira, all thanks to Mrs. Mnadu. A real one.
