Over the past couple of days, I’ve hired a few people to do jobs that make you question whether those of us in tech are really working hard.
One of the jobs involved climbing to the top of a two-story building on a hot day. The others were different but equally demanding. The strength, courage, and risk involved are significant, yet these people do it as their means of livelihood. They are very diligent too; they start as early as possible and do their jobs with smiles on their faces.
Don’t get me wrong — people like us in tech work hard; we stress our brains every day, tackling complex problems. But watching these people work these past couple of days has made me appreciate what a privilege it is not to be doing such laborious jobs.
And I thank God for those who do these jobs and love doing them because if it were only people like me in the world, those kinds of jobs would probably never get done.
